I had a lovely weekend with Carla & her family!!! They were so sweet to me - it was so nice to feel like even out here in this big, big world (which I've decided feels small when you're up in a jet plane zooming around, but markedly small when you realize you are just one of BILLIONS of people on the planet) that there are people that you are connected to. I stayed there Friday & Saturday night - entirely unexpectedly. Saturday I went with them to their son Max's school summer fair - watched the kids run around and eat waaaaaay too much sugar. It was great! I felt like a member of their family. I feel heartened and capable of carrying on now - it was what I needed. I can hardly express to them just how much it meant. I feel so much better.
I got a call from Uncle Mick tonight - he's going off to hike a mountain so that he can get ready for our trip. We're going to do some serious hiking in Switzerland. Go check THIS out. It blows my mind that we'll be sauntering (or puffing - depends) around the Matterhorn one day, then a couple days later we'll be walking around Florence and Rome. So amazing when you think about it. I'm really excited for that part of my trip as well. I'm trying really hard not to wish away this part of my trip - I do love being in London. But, as I said, classes are bugging me. I was saying to Carla & Mark that I spend all my time with other law students - I don't get out on my own as much as I would like. It's hard to meet people when you're in a gaggle.
I'm so tempted to buy a plane ticket and zoom out to Vienna next weekend. I should keep it hidden away like a lovely, lovely surprise because I get four whole months to explore it, but how much fun would it be just to get a sneak preview?!?!? But I'm going to resist. It wouldn't break the bank, but it would not be a prudent use of my funds.
I'm really glad I set up this blog...I feel like this way I connect with everyone and I'm sitting in the middle of Bloomsbury in London, sipping my tea with milk and nibbling HobNobs Oaty biscuits. It's fabulous!
