Or as we say in English - today I'm going to stay in and relax. Everyone always says - you don't go abroad and get a hotel room to sit in it, so who cares what it's like, right? Well, if you're traveling for 9 months you might. Today, I'm just going to stay in and relax for the day. I don't want to go out and ramble around, I want to just hang out at the hotel and relax. Read my paper & the Economist that I didn't finish last week. MAYBE I'll go for a walk, maybe not. We'll see how the day progresses. They are predicting rain. I already went and bought some wee yummy gifties for the Andersons and their kiddos. Germans LOVE gummi candies. I couldn't say why, but Leah might be able to tell me. She loves them too...
The hotel that I'm staying at, as mentioned, is really nice. It's called Achat Plaza - it's in Offenbach near Frankfurt. It largely seems geared towards business travelers - lots of meeting rooms and such. The breakfast isn't included if you just get the room and that is 15 Euro (ouch) but it's worth it. It's a nice spread. Better than the 4 Euro I paid for some bread and jam in Paris. I'll pay the extra to have eggs, toast, bacon, juice, any cereal you could want and loads of other options. Especially since today is lounging day and I don't want to worry about food. The area is really peaceful and unique - the one I'm staying in seems to be in a renovated either factory or stadium building. The rooms are all new and have modern fixtures - the luxury of a full bathtub. I'd say that Americans would be very pleased with the location - honestly Americans have different expectations of size and accommodation. I've grown accustomed to having rooms that make a cracker box look big, but if you're looking for something more along the lines of a Hilton or a Marriott - you would really enjoy this hotel as well. The have a sauna and workout space somewhere - haven't gone hunting for it yet. I don't think they're air conditioned, but in Germany that is rarely necessary. It might be a consideration if you're traveling in the summer and are sensitive to heat though. After Italy, this is downright chilly.
Overall, quite pleased. Two enthusiastic thumbs up for the Achat Plaza. I think I'm going to book my rooms for the way back here as well. About a 10 minute trip on the DB from downtown Frankfurt and a 4.70 Euro cab ride from the train station. Not too bad. I can live with that for the extra comfort and the increased space.
Well, on to my pursuit of lounging. Such a rough life...
