I had emailed the German Marshall Fund about volunteering with some of their fellows over the summer (http://www.gmfus.org/template/index.cfm) while I'm in Europe and I actually spoke to one of their people today in Washington. They are willing to work with my schedule and allow me to be there from August 1st through August 28th, it will likely be in Brussels, but perhaps Berlin (apparently they are getting a new director in Brussels). I have to send them a resume, writing sample, and a brief sketch of my research proposal. Uh...well...I have all sorts of articles that I am perusing in reviewing for it. I'm thinking either it's going to be on United States Bilateral Investment Treaties and how they are inhibiting trade barrier liberalization. Either that or the use of Regulatory Corporations in Economic Development and trade barrier liberalization. I'm still trying to narrow it down. I want to somehow incorporate agriculture - for all that its only 10% of the world trade, it's the most complicated & restrictive. However it is often one of the strongest potential exports for developing countries that are not industrialized. They can't make IPods, but they can grow some pretty sweet coffee. That is what I want to DO when I am done with all this STUFF...but for the first time I'm really enjoying what I am doing NOW. This is all prepartory for where I am GOING.
