OK - so now there are still more issues with my luggage. Now they are saying that there is not enough documentation, they want all this other stuff, and they are giving me a really hard time. I went all the way out to the UPS location at the airport today to try to sort it out. They are going to "try" to sort everything out with customs, but it could be "up to a week" before they get it sorted out. Oh, and apparently (according to UPS) I need an itemized list of my luggage contents to get it through customs (ok - this is LUGGAGE. I'm not importing anything) and I might have to pay duties on it. Today has been horrible. I went out and spent 439 Euro on a suit - in case it doesn't get here by Wednesday (I think I can make it by 2 days without it, but after that I'm stuck) and for those of you that are playing along, 439 Euro is $598.00. This was not in my budget. I am really really upset about this. I can return it if the luggage gets here, but I am really upset about the whole thing. Take the $598 for the suit and the $300 for the shipping - I could have flown home to the United States, picked up the luggage myself, and flown back to Vienna without this hassle. $598 is 68% of my rent for next month. It is my spending money for the next 2 months - no more fun stuff for me. I can't believe this. I am so frustrated with this whole process. I should have just bought the 'round the world ticket through the Star Alliance and went home to get the luggage myself. One would THINK that if a company handles this type of thing all the time, then they would have anticipated these things and I wouldn't be freaking out 3 days before I start work. I shouldn't have to be worrying about this. It should be THEM that is worrying about this. What am I PAYING for? And I think that they already charged my credit card - if not, there is a charge on there that isn't tracking properly.
I have to say, at least I love my apartment. If anyone is looking for temporary housing in Vienna, I highly recommend Vienna Apartments. They've been really helpful and the property is in the perfect location for me. Everything with the apartment has worked out perfectly and the booking was convenient, fast. The apartment I'm in is exactly the one that they showed in the pictures. I'm still a bit confused as to what I should be doing with my trash when the bin fills up - but I'm sure that will resolve itself with time. Having a place to go to every night is a comfort. My apartment is really clean and comfortable. It's just right - so, that is a huge positive. It's a comfort to know that in this case I got exactly what I arranged & paid for. So, Viel Dank to Vienna Apartments!
