Today Lorelei's mom, Robyn, took me out and about in Sydney. I had a lovely time. We went down to the city center and saw the Barracks Museum, St. Mary's Cathedral, the Royal Botanic Gardens, the National Gallery and Circular Quay again. I loved it all and she was such a lovely tour guide. She knew a lot of the history and showed me around. It was so nice to have a personal tour guide - we get along quite well. I love her to bits. Naturally, I took a ton of PICTURES.
We had lunch on the patio at the museum and there were these rainbow lorakeets that were terribly bold - eating off people's plates with the people sitting right there. They were so lovely though that it was impossible to really get upset. When the waiter came to clear the table, he actually just brought a bit of sugar and dumped it on the ground so the birds would jump down to the ground. They apparently are quite fond of sweets because they readily complied. Then on the walk through the Botanical Gardens I couldn't stop taking pictures and ogling these giant bats that were hanging from all the trees! In America, our bats are not that large. These were the size of cats and they were everywhere.
At the end of the day, we were walking around the Circular Quay and there were 2 Aboriginal men playing the diggery-doo and doing traditional dances. I found them fascinating. I ended up chatting with them about their history and culture while they were taking a break and they were quite kind to suggest a photo. So, I have a picture with them.
All in all, a lovely Sydney day. Tomorrow is Lorelei's birthday & we're going to celebrate. Perhaps I can stop taking pictures of wildlife long enough that we can celebrate properly.
