My apartment in Vienna is GREAT! It cost me a LOT of money (I'm 1880 Euro down now - that is what we call a LOT of money.) but it's great to be in a place where I can bunker down. There is amazing fast internet for just 1 Euro per day but no phone. Apparently they found that they had too many problems with people not paying for the phone when they left. So...I'll have to sort that out. There are tons of internet/call shops around Vienna, so I guess that is what I'll be relying on. I'm going to get an Austrian SIM card too. I'm just so relieved to be here. It's the best feeling. And I checked and my luggage is on its way. It was in Koln at 11:57 AM. It might be here late tonight or tomorrow. Either way, it's on its way. I of course took some PICTURES of my place - I need to go get some groceries & sundries (handsoap, TP...stuff like that) but I am HERE.
I had my first experience with a REALLY rude Austrian today. So - I'm here & I need groceries right? I go find a grocery store and make sure that they take credit cards. So I go through the store and get all my stuff...and get up to the counter and the woman quite rudely and quite loudly indicates in German that they won't take MY card. It's a credit card with a stripe, not with a chip. I've seen this before but usually they can swipe it on the register. I put everything back in the cart, the other girl who works there speaks English so I tell her I'll go get money & come back. I walk all over until some nice guy points out a Bancomat in Prater (which incidentally is a GIANT PIG that oinks while you get your cash) and I go back. The other evil woman put all my groceries back! She indicates there was yogurt so they had to put it back in a rather rude fashion, then rattled something off in German - I got the word dumm (which is the same in American - stupid) and Americanerine. So apparently I was a stupid American. NICE. I was ready to cry. I was so tired and so frustrated, so I did what every American does in this situation and took my business and my money across the street. I am sorry that this happened, but you don't need to be evil about it and you DON'T need to call me names. I didn't do it intentionally. Oh my word.
