The UN and Vienna observations

I went and took the UN tour today. I loved it. I'm getting a bit nervous about my internship. I think being a little nervous is a good thing - I'm committed to doing an amazing job while I'm there. This is the field I want to get into and I want to learn everything I can while I'm there - l want to soak it all up like a sponge. However I can't help but wonder if I have the base knowledge I need. I've had Public International Law, Contracts - all that good stuff. But it's United States law - with the exception of PIL. I know that I will gain more knowledge as I go (the point), but what's the start going to look like? I emailed them today & confirmed that everything is set to go...all I need now is my luggage to be delivered. I expect that tomorrow.

I have been thinking about the Viennese. On the whole, they are friendly. People are kind and friendly. Most people are tolerant of my broken and stilted German. If they have some English, we fumble along together. I went to the Naschtmarkt today and loved it - everything goes well. The only exception to this rule seems to be grocery store checkout women. I went to another grocery store today (there is one right around the corner in the opposite direction - at least it's closer!) and the woman wasn't horrid like the other, but just grumpy. I expect that they aren't well paid and have a seriously boring job. It makes sense that they would be a bit grumpy. But I find it perplexing nonetheless. American grocery clerks aren't notoriously grumpy. I mean, I'm sure we have our fair share but I've never felt like it's quite so blatant. If you smile and say thank you, they smile back at least. Thus far, that is my only Viennese as a nice people exception to date. Otherwise, I really am enjoying Vienna. It doesn't hurt that I'm "my" apartment now.
